The Route

Introduction

Well with the skiing season virtually over its time to start heading for the hills without the planks on my feet and start this years munro bagging. Todays target was to be Dreish and Mayar up Glen Doll. Danny and I left Dunfermline at 0600 and arrived at the large carpark (£2 parking fee) at about 0735. By 0745 we were kitted up and on our way.

The Walk

We had decided to follow the Cameron McNeish route which takes you up around/through the wood and then straight up the Scorrie. Looking across at the shear vertical looking slope up the hillside from the car park left me wondering if this was a good move hahaha. Not to be diswaded we set off on our way. We left the car park and headed up jocks road for 0.5km then took the left track across the bridge. After another hundred metres you take the left fork which leads to a small stile across the fence. There has been a lot of tree felling here so its a case of make your own way up the side of the wood. We headed of west into the first fire break and then after 50m or so headed south up into the forest. After a short while you emerge from the forest and now its just a steep slog up the hillside. I found this very hard work. There is a little bit of scrambling to do near the top and we eventually emerged onto the top of the Scorrie at 750m. Its now easier walking all the way to the summit of Dreish.

Dreish summit was in the cloud as we were climbing up but the cloud was starting to lift and the sun came out by the time we got to Mayar. The walk from Dreish to Mayar is straightforward and about 3km west of Dreish on a well worn path.

Its now simply a walk down to the top of Corrie Fee and then descend on the well worn pathway through the forest all the way back to the car park.
