The Route

Introduction

I had some free time on Wednesday afternoon and decided the time was right to head over to Mull to bag Ben More. The weather lately has not been great by any means and having not walked/ran for three weeks I was dying to get out on the hills. The Wednesday afternoon was lovely with bags of sunshine interspersed with the odd shower so with a bit of luck I might be able to catch some sunshine. So with a good hard session in mind I headed over catching the 1600hrs ferry from Oban.

The Walk

I got changed into my hill kit on the ferry and after arriving at Dhiseig I was off like a madman up the hill by 1730. The sun was out but it didn’t take long for the rain to appear. A quick stop for a waterproof top and I was again on my way. I followed the walk highland route in the main which was pretty straight forward. The terrain underfoot was muddy track or wet grass, which was very boggy, with shale and small boulders for the final ascent.

The ascent is steepest near the top but I was working hard and arrived at the summit in 1hr 38 mins. The last 50m of ascent were in the clag. So quick about turn and I jogged all the way back to the car getting down in 40 mins. Quick change and I was soon in the Craignure Inn for a pint and a meal before retireing early and catching the first ferry back to the mainland.
