Introduction
Just a short report on a walk up Beinn Sgulaird from Glen Etive. My reason for going this way was it would save 40 miles of driving on the return trip.
The Walk
Its quite straight forward. Just drive down Glen Etive. Park at the car park at the Loch. (You can’t drive any further). And walk up the side of the forest following the faint track up the hillside. Then cross the valley and ascend the mountain. I inadvertently ascended a little bit earlier than planned and ended up on the South side of Lochan na Saobhaidhe rather than the North side but from the valley Beinn Sgulaird can clearly be seen and its just a matter of picking your own route West and climb up the Corrie or either flank of the mountain.
The flanks are a bit scrambly in places but not difficult. I met a few people on the top and had a good chat and food break. The return trip is must the same however I ended up heading for forest rather early but this presents no issues so long as you follow the fence line around and descend back down the hill. The terrain underfoot is a bit lumpy with tufts of grass and a few pot holes so care has to be taken. I jogged most of the way back so add some time if you go this way and walk all of it.
